David Lundstedt is a native of Austin, Texas and a retired Austin Fire Fighter after serving 28 years. David has been active in animal welfare for many years. He is a former board member of the PAWS Animal Shelter in Kyle, TX and was a founding member of Chain Free Austin, a group that successfully lobbied for a ban on the chaining of dogs in Austin. He currently serves as treasurer for the Spay Austin Coalition, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about pet population control through spay/neuter. David was appointed to the Austin Animal Advisory Commission in 2007 by Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Martinez and currently serves as Chair.

In March of 2010 the city council adopted the “No-Kill Implementation Plan,” a 34-part plan designed to increase live outcomes at Austin’s animal shelter to 90% by 2012. The shelter has maintained No-Kill status since 2011.
In December of 2010 the city council adopted changes to the Pet Trader ordinance, effectively banning the retail sales of dogs and cats at Austin pet stores. The ordinance also imposes basic reporting requirements on local breeders.
